639,231 Steps to Perfect Parenting+Excellent Link

20 years ago I had all the rules and regulations for perfect parenting  laid out quite clear in my brain.  All 639,231 of them.  I’ve tried them all and failed, so, out of sheer necessity to remain sane, I’ve boiled my parenting philosophy down to three things:

  1. Enjoy and treasure Jesus above all else.  This is infectious.
  2. Enjoy and treasure your family.  Their hearts will be knit with yours.
  3. Say you are sorry and ask forgiveness…a lot.  Humility prevents anger, bitterness and many sorrows.

Sara sent along a link to a fabulous article on parenting written by Kevin DeYoung called “Parenting 001″.  We all read it over here in our home and got some big laughs…and could relate to a lot of what he shared (especially since we had all enjoyed huge bowls of Fruit Loops for dessert last night after supper).  I know you will thoroughly enjoy it as well, and I hope it brings some balance, encouragement, and perspective to this eternal responsibility called parenting.
