You’ve Got What it Takes
By Natalie, Editress of Visionary Womanhood
Did you know that you have three parts? Your body, your soul, and your spirit. Your body is like the tip of an iceberg. It’s above the water where everyone can see it. Your soul and spirit are the huge part of the iceberg that lies under the water where no one can see. But it’s the greater part of who you are.
Your soul is the seat of your mind, will, and emotions. It’s the part of you that feels joy and pain. It’s the part of you that can be wounded by experiences in life. It’s the part of you that sins and destroys the lives of others. Regardless of whether or not you are a Christian, your soul has the capacity to be wounded or whole. To be sick or healthy.
Your spirit, on the other hand, is the deepest part of who you are. If you have been saved then your spirit has been swept clean, and the Living God dwells there. In fact, until you are saved, your spirit is in a state of death. It is stone cold. But once the Creator enters, He breathes life into your spirit and then takes up residence there.
Think of God—the Living God—dwelling in you. He has three persons. The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Think of the Father’s Extravagant Love living in you.
Think of Jesus Christ’s Amazing Grace living in you.
Think of the Holy Spirit’s Intimate Friendship living in you.
When you have God, you’ve got everything necessary—deep in your spirit—to heal your soul and change your life.
Think of the hurt and sorrows of your life. Think of your current struggles. What do you need more than anything?
You need:
Extravagant Love
Amazing Grace
Intimate Friendship
Sister, you’ve got what it takes. Truly.
A book called Disrupted Hope by Paul Singh is coming out this fall. These thoughts are taken from that book.
Oh, this is so timely. So true. And much needed. Bless you!
Thanks for sharing this Natalie. Paul’s framework really blew my mind (in a good way). I’m eagerly working my way through his book ‘Rekindling Your Spirit’ and have a strong sense that as I unpack more of his ideas, they’re going to significantly impact my future ministry interests. For me, some of what Paul shares is the missing puzzle piece in the journey Lynette and I have been on for the past year and a half. We’re excited to see what the future holds!
Me too!
Natalie, I’ve done quite a bit of writing about the tripartite nature of human beings, of language, and of reality itself. Let me know if you’d like some Bible-based (and free) information on this. I think you’ll find it fascinating.
