…the battle for mankind’s future must be waged and won in the public school classroom by teachers who correctly perceive their role as the proselytizers of a new faith: a religion of humanity…utilizing a classroom instead of a pulpit to convey humanist values in whatever subject they teach, regardless of the educational level—preschool, day care center or large state university. The classroom must and will become an arena of conflict between the old and the new—the rotting corpse of Christianity, together with all its adjacent evils and misery, and the new faith of humanism. “A New Religion for a New Age,” The Humanist, January/February, 1983
Here at Visionary Womanhood, our topic for the month of July is Education vs. Schooling. I hope it will prove to be an encouraging, eye-opening adventure as we explore the differences! We’ll start off with a bang by taking a look at an excerpt taken from the book: Choose You This Day: God’s Instructions on How to Select Leaders by Buddy Hanson.
Each of the following nine points are systematically being taught daily in State-schools:
1. Evolution
The belief that man gradually emerged by chance from lower forms of life over millions of years.
Manifesto I
Affirmation 1: “Religious humanists regard the universe as self-existing and not created.”
Affirmation 2: “Humanism believes that man is a part of nature and that he has emerged as the result of a continuous process.”
Manifesto II
Principle 2: “…science affirms that the human species is an emergence from natural evolutionary forces…”
THE TRUTH:
“So God created man in His own image…,” Genesis 1:1, 27; “Know that the Lord is God, Jeremiah 1:4-5; and “It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves.” Psalm 100:3
2. Self Authority (individual autonomy)
Man is his own authority and is not accountable to any higher power. This “self-sufficiency” leads to self-interest, self-gratification, self-indulgence and self-righteousness.
Manifesto II
Principle 1: “Too often traditional faiths encourage dependence rather than independence, obedience rather than affirmation, fear rather than courage…”
THE TRUTH
“Woe to them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!” Isaiah 5:21; Jeremiah 17:9; I Corinthians 2:14
3. Situational Ethics
There are no absolute rules by which to live. Man is his own final authority and decides what to do based on current circumstances.
Manifesto II
Principle 3: “We affirm that moral values derive their source from human experience. Ethics is autonomous and situational, needing no theological or ideological sanction. Ethics stem from human need and interest.”
THE TRUTH
“Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatever a man sows, that shall he also reap.” Galatians 6:7
4. Distorted Realism
Everyone should be exposed to realistic viewpoints, including and emphasis on profanity, immorality, and perversions as acceptable modes of self-expression.
Manifesto II
Principle 5: “We reject all religious, ideological, or moral codes that denigrate the individual, suppress freedom, dull intellect, dehumanize personality…individual freedom of choice should be increased.”
THE TRUTH
“Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.” I Corinthians 15:33; “Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that you may minister grace unto the hearers.” Ephesians 4:29; 5: 11-12; Philippians 4: 8
5. Sexual Permissiveness
The belief that all forms of sexual expression are acceptable. Public sex education is considered necessary provided it is taught without Judeo-Christian morals.
Manifesto II
Principle 6: “In the area of sexuality, we believe that intolerant attitudes often cultivated by orthodox religions and puritanical cultures, unduly repress sexual conduct. The right to birth control, abortion, and divorce should be recognized…Neither do we wish to prohibit, by law or social sanction, sexual behavior between consenting adults.”
THE TRUTH
“…when lust has conceived, it brings forth sin: and sin, when it is finished brings forth death. ” James 1:15; “Whoso causes the righteous to go astray in an evil way, he shall fall himself into his own pit…” Proverbs 28:10; Galatians 6:8; Leviticus 18:22,33
6. Anti-Biblical Bias
The belief that man creates God out of his own experience.
Manifesto II
Principle 1: “Traditional…religions that place revelation, God ritual, or creed above human needs and experience do a disservice…We find insufficient evidence for belief in the existence of a supernatural…As non-theist, we begin with humans, not God, nature, not deity…we can discover no divine purpose for the human species…humans are responsible for what we are or will become. No deity will save us, we must save ourselves.”
Principle 2: “Promises of immortal salvation or fear of eternal damnation are both illusory and harmful…There is no credible evidence that life survives the death of the body.”
THE TRUTH
“The fool said in his heart, ‘There is not God.’ They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that does good.” Psalm 14:1; Isaiah 55:8-9; II Corinthians 4:3-4
7. Anti-Free Enterprise
Government ownership or control of the economy should replace private ownership of porperty and the free market economy. This economic collectivism is known as cradle to grave welfare, or socialism.
Manifesto I
Affirmation 14: “The existing acquisitive and profit motivated society has shown itself to be inadequate; a radical change in methods, controls and motives must be instituted. A socialized and cooperative economic order must be established to the end that the equitable distribution of the means of life be possible…”
THE TRUTH
“He becomes poor that deals with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent makes rich.” Proverbs 10:4; II Thessalonians 3:10
8. One World Government
The belief that global citizenship should replace national self-determinism.
Manifesto II
Principle 12: “We deplore the division of humankind on nationalistic grounds…the best option is to transcend the limits of national sovereignty and to move toward the building of a world community in which all sections of the human family can participate…”
THE TRUTH
“So the Lord scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth…” Genesis 11:6-9
9. Death Education
The belief that there is no hope of existence beyond the grave…no heaven or hell: endorses euthanasia and suicide.
Manifesto II
Principle 2: “There is no credible evidence that life survives the death of the body. We continue to live in our progeny.”
Principle 7: “…and individual’s right to euthanasia, and the right to suicide.”
THE TRUTH
“…that there shall be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and the unjust.” Acts 24:15; “But he that sins against Me wronged his own soul: all they that hate Me love death.” Proverbs 8:36
As a society we can’t have it both ways. Either we repent and return to the Christian values of self-government and capitalism, and take back the control of educating our children, or continue to confine ourselves inside the four walls of our homes and churches until America is completely changed into a socialistic and atheistic country, which will then demand that Christians not influence society.
Either we will repent and return to being a Christian republic, where property rights are honored, low tax rates can be protected, and we govern ourselves according to God’s principles, or we can continue to do nothing except complain until America’s democratic metamorphosis is complete and we are governed by ruthless tyrants.
Either we will control our leaders by selecting them according to God’s criteria, or we will continue to select them according to selfish motives of what tax monies they can steal from other communities to bring back to our hometown.
Either we will continue to try magic bullets (government programs) in an effort to improve State-controlled schools, or we will change the weapon by beginning Christian home schools and parent-controlled Christian schools.
Wasn’t that a nice summary? I Chronicles 12:32 talks about the men of Issachar “who understood the times and knew what Israel should do”. I hope you’ll join us in our discussion this month as we seek to “understand the times” that we live in and apply God’s Word in all that we do…especially in the education of our most precious treasures…the children.
Wow….what a breakdown Scary stuff. I think if each writer chose one of these eight areas she could use them as a springboad for it’s own post, kwim? This is going to be another great month of ennlightening posts. Can’t wait!! Love you…
