How to Most Radically Change the Nation
By Contributing Writer, Kelly Crawford
Do you get discouraged watching the news and seeing the decline of the nation you love? I know I do. At times it feels like all there is left to do is throw up our hands and retreat. Another election reminds us that there are few men of integrity, few committed to a return of principles that made us a great nation, and fewer still who would support such a man.
So what can one person do? What can one family do?
So much! Everything, actually.
Thankfully, we aren’t the first nation to experience this decaying of morality and there are answers! There is a record–one of my favorite stories–in the Bible of a city in despair and the efforts of one godly man, with a message from the Lord, who saved it.
Do you remember Nehemiah, who mourned deeply for the ravished, demoralized city of Jerusalem? He spoke words that would change that city, and the same message can change us.
He spoke to individual families. He told them to stop looking around at the destruction and look to their own homes. “Fortify the wall in front of you”. Every home, every family, every man built his section of the wall. They built with one hand and held a sword in the other, warding off the enemy that might hinder them. Determined, focused, tireless. By itself, it was a small section. But together, it became a wall that brought complete restoration.
Where does change begin with us? One person, one family, one home at a time. From the bottom up. Little by little, determined, focused building on the foundation of Christ.
And as you mother those little, needy children, remember the building. You are fortifying your section of the wall day by day and your tireless efforts are not in vain!
Are we too distracted to keep the course? Has the enemy found an unguarded opening? Are we spurring our neighbors to “build the wall”?
Faithful, consistent living out God’s Word in our lives and homes will bring about more radical transformation than any elected official can offer.
