From Thanksgiving to Joy: Connecting the Dots

Psalm 50: 14 “Offer to God a sacrifice of Thanksgiving [make thanksgiving your sacrifice]…and call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me.”

Thanksgiving is a sacrifice when you look around and see the yuck.  To be thankful in the pit…that takes faith.
And faith is the thing that pleases God most.
Seeing Him down there…and having faith (vision) to believe that He is in loving control (not just control)…that He is good...and that, even in the hole, you are in the shadow of His wing and can sing for joy…this is the sacrifice of thanksgiving. It pleases God because it glorifies God.
Isn’t that what we were made for?
The thing I’m taking away from reading One Thousand Gifts is that gratefulness takes vision. Vision is faith in God and His sovereignty and goodness.  This pleases God and brings Him glory.  And that is the key to joy!  We find joy in fulfilling our purpose for existence: bringing glory to our Creator!
Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.  Hebrews 11:1
So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.  II Cor. 4:18
Simple?  Maybe.  Profound?  Absolutely.  Isn’t God amazing?
So back to your pits (perhaps)…and back to making your lists of One Thousand Gifts.  And back to joy…
