Giveaway of a New Worldview Curriculum for Children: What Does the Bible Say About THAT?

If you’ve hung around this blog for very long, you know that I’m passionate about spreading a Biblical worldview.  And there’s nobody I’d rather have saturated and walking in truth MORE than my precious children.  I want every last one of them grounded and prepared.

So when I found out that Kevin Swanson of Generations with Vision had written a brand new Biblical Worldview Curriculum for children ages 9+, I had to check it out.  I pre-ordered his new book back in November, received it in December, and  started digging into it with my children just last week.

I want to share some of the things I love about this book, but first, I think it’s important to reiterate why worldview is so absolutely critical in our time.  Kevin does it best in his opening message to parents and teachers.  Here is an excerpt:

“Over the last 25 years, the Nehemiah Institute has conducted its “PEERS Worldview Test” for Christian children in homeschools, Christian schools, and public schools.  Based on a study of 60,000 students, the survey found that Christians attending public schools slipped 86% (from a score of 38.9 to 5.4) over 21 years.  Christian children attending traditional Christian schools slipped 65% over 21 years (from a score of 49.7 to 17.3), and homeschoolers and Christian schoolers that were taught the rudiments of a biblical worldview actually improved by 11% (from 62.1 to 69.4) over the same period.  The baseline scoring was established by testing self-proclaimed atheists and humanists (against Christian pastors and leaders who held to the inerrancy and authority of the Bible.)  According to these studies, a score of 38 would indicate a “secular humanist.”  Thus, you can see that most Christian children have become secular humanists (if they attend Christian or public schools.)

“Ideas matter.  What you teach your children really matters.  Your choice of curriculum is vitally important.  Because of the secular humanism taught in schools and textbooks everywhere, some families will see their children leave the faith in this generation.  Some families will see their grandchildren leave the Christian faith.  Actually, the entire English-speaking world is in the process of abandoning the Christian faith.  This has already worked terrible effects on the family and the socio-economic conditions in western nations.  But more important than all of that is your children’s relationship with the true and living God.  When God is ignored, and His truth is put on the back burner, children will wander away from Him.  They will forget about Him because they do not rest their system of knowledge of His truth.

“Of course, all parents that love their children will seek the best possible education and training for them.  We want to see our children in heaven someday.  Therefore, what they believe about God, about His creation, about truth, sin, and redemption really matters.

“Speaking of the man who hears God’s words and does them, Jesus said, “The wise man built his house upon a rock.”  This strong foundation is God’s truth revealed to us in the Bible.  When a nation builds its system of knowledge and its education on the wrong foundations, it sets the nation on footers of sand.  Its buildings and institutions may not come down right away, but one day the rains will come and floods will rise, and “great will be the fall of that house!” (Matthew 7:27)  The nation will see 42% of its children born without fathers (up from 6% in 1960).  Its scientific technology and genetic engineering become self-destructive.  Birth implosions and the breakdown of character will turn its economies upside down.  Our nation might even turn into the greatest debtor nation in the world.

“It’s time right now to teach your children the basics.  Give them a biblical worldview, and they will have what it takes to withstand the storms to come.”

I love What Does the Bible Say About THAT? for the following reasons:

  • It’s written in an easy-to-follow, conversational format that engages the attention of the children.  For example: “The truth is important.  But whom should we believe?  Many people in this world tell lies.  Some do not know they are telling lies.  There are lots of lies everywhere.  So whom do we believe?”
  • It asks lots of questions that get you thinking…and tells stories that clearly illustrate the points being made.  For example: “How can you know if somebody has a “biblical worldview”? Here is a simple test: ask him about anything.  Ask him about something related to food, or love, or dads and moms, or government, or music.  If this fellow has a biblical worldview, in some way or another he will always bring up the question, “WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY ABOUT THAT?:  He will always start with the Bible, before he thinks about anything else.”
  • The pages are broken up into easy chunks of reading, Scripture, and pictures that highlight what is being presented.
  • Other worldview curriculum books we have read, while being very thorough, haven’t given a lot of specific ways to apply “worldview” to the practical issues of our day.  I LOVE how Kevin weaves a good deal of this practical application into his book.  It’s a great way for moms and dads who may not be grounded themselves to begin to see just what a major difference it can make to view ALL of life through a truly biblical grid.  In an election year, this book is especially applicable!  Want to give your kids an easy to understand overview of how government was designed by God to work?  That’s how practical this book is.

Covering ten important areas of life including family, the church and government, What Does the Bible Say About That? will provide your family with the thinking tools they need to navigate many controversial issues today.  It will help establish solid, logical thinking patterns rooted in God’s Word, our ultimate plumb line of Truth.

Your children would be able to read this on their own and do great; however, I recommend reading it with them so you can dialogue about the issues raised.  We have worldview conversations every single day in our home, and it is not only stimulating, thought-provoking, and visionary, but it is also BONDING.  The Word of God is not some antiquated book that has little to offer modern man.  It is vibrant, alive, logical, reasonable, and applicable to all of life.  And it binds us together in unity.

My hope and prayer is that your children will not be part of the statistic cited above, but that your posterity would be mighty in the land, able to participate confidently in the Conversation of the Ages, presenting truth with precision and acumen.  And may God use this new tool from Kevin Swanson to bring us another step closer to that goal.
